Doctors Geelong

More Than Just Your Local Doctor
Our medical centre doesn’t just include doctors. Our certified exercise physiologist provides individualised exercise programs for people of Geelong suffering from chronic conditions. These programs include a weekly session in our onsite gym and also guided at-home exercises for throughout the week. Our exercise programs use light exercise and movement to improve quality of life and help reduce the symptoms of chronic conditions. Patients are offered customised programs in 2 main areas:

  • Back and knee injuries
  • Chronic healthcare issues such as osteoarthritis and diabetes

We conduct workout plans for patients with chronic diseases such as osteoarthritis, heart disease and diabetes. Those suffering from these chronic healthcare problems can improve their quality of life through movement and improved fitness.

Prior to the creation of an individualised exercise program, patients are examined by a specialised sports doctor and our exercise physiologist. An exercise plan and program is next customised according to the chronic condition, the patient’s current fitness ability and age. Patients with similar programs are put in a small group for eight weekly sessions that are guided by our team.

Patients are also taught at-home workouts and lifestyle changes in addition to the weekly gym sessions and fitness management. During the weekly onsite sessions patient’s progress is assessed and a further healthcare evaluation is conducted at the end of the program. Patients are invited to a single refresher session in the gym every 3 to 6 months.

We create and supervise workout programs for individuals experiencing chronic conditions including recurring back problems. Regular exercise helps to improve body strength and fitness and assists in reducing the symptoms and pain of these chronic conditions.

Our programs consist of eight weekly onsite sessions in our fully equipped gym along with an at-home exercise plan that is customised for each patient. Our exercise physiologist and one of our sports doctors evaluate each patient to create personalised workout programs.

Exercise can considerably enhance general fitness and quality of life by helping to alleviate symptoms of chronic conditions. Newtown Medical Centre provides patients with customised workout programs to assist with knee and back injuries, chronic pain and ongoing health issues like heart disease, osteoarthritis and diabetes.

To take part in our exercise programs patients require a GP referral. Enrollment into the program can be made via our reception team or by phoning (03) 5221 5044. If you have a Chronic Disease Management Plan and an EPC referral from your GP, you may be able to receive Medicare support.

Your Way To Good Health

Feeling sick, unwell, irritated or exhausted? Yes, these can also be good reasons to visit your doctor in Geelong. You need not always have extreme symptoms like nausea, severe headaches or high fevers to visit your Doctor. If you don’t feel yourself or feel out of sorts for a long time and you don’t know what to do about it, a trip to your local Geelong doctor could help make you feel better

As you plan your visit, here are a few things to keep in mind and prepare for your doctor’s appointment.

Planning Your Appointment:
You need to make an appointment. You can call our friendly reception team to make an appointment with one of our GPs. If you’ve been seeing another doctor about the same or similar illnesses try to have a list of any treatments you’ve tried, or medications you’ve taken. Copies of X-rays, blood tests and MRIs, if you have them, will also help our doctors better treat you. Medical records from your former doctor will also be of great help. Your old doctor will usually send you a copy of your medical records by request.

Note Down Your Symptoms:
As your appointment is confirmed, be prepared with a list of all of the symptoms you’re experiencing. Keeping a record of your symptoms means you don’t have to try to recall every detail on the day of your appointment. You can also write down any questions you may want to ask the doctor.

You need to remember that you should be accurate with your symptoms. Be precise and clear. Do not exaggerate your symptoms. Just let your doctor Geelong know how you are feeling. It is important that your doctor gets accurate and timely information about your health status.

Prepare Your Medical History:
If you haven’t visited our clinic before, you’ll need to fill your new doctor in on your medical history such as any family history of anxiety, depression, heart disease etc. It is your duty to disclose your family medical history. If there is anything which the doctor needs to know, you should definitely reveal it. It will help in getting an accurate diagnosis and the right treatment plan.

Bring Any Current Medication
When you visit us for the first time , bring in any current medications you’re taking. By viewing the medication in person your doctor will know the exact dosage and frequency that you’ve been prescribed and make any adjustments if necessary. Here, you can also discuss any side effects or improvements you’ve felt since taking the medication.

Our doctors are here to help you our but they need your cooperation to make this possible.

Phone us today to make your next doctors appointment at Newtown Medical Centre, Geelong's oldest general practice medical clinic. (03) 5221 5044.
