Do you accept new patients?

New patients are always welcome at Newtown Medical Centre. Please call our friendly reception team on (03) 5221 5044 to make an appointment with one of our doctors. You can download our New Patient Forms here and complete them before your appointment, or we can provide these to you on arrival at our clinic.

Do you provide after-hours care?

We offer 24-hour patient care through Home Doctor Service. You can call Newtown Medical Centre after hours and our voice message will provide you with the Home Doctor Service details, or click here to be directed to their website.

Can I make an appointment online?

We have an online booking system that existing patients can use. New patients will need to call our reception team to make their first appointment.  Some appointments and practitioners are not available online, please call our team to book if you cannot find a suitable appointment.

Doctor availability

Our doctors consult in a variety of sessions and times throughout the week.  We practice in a team environment and if your normal GP is not available we encourage you to book with one of our colleagues.  Our practice provides appointments in the evenings and on Saturdays, and keep a significant number of on day appointments for urgent conditions.  We will always work hard to provide you with excellent health care when you need it and are forever working on increasing our appointment availability.

What payment methods are accepted at Newtown Medical Centre?

We accept payment by cash, EFTPOS, cheque or credit card.

Do you perform immunisations?

Our doctors and nurses at Newtown Medical Centre perform childhood immunisations, flu vaccinations and travel vaccinations.  See our vaccination section for more information

I’m going on holiday and I don’t know which vaccinations I need?

We recommend making an appointment with our one of our travel doctors to discuss your travel plans and get the required vaccinations for your destinations.

English isn’t my first language, what if I have trouble understanding the doctor?

Our practice encourages patients with English language difficulties to utilise the Translating & Interpreting Service National by phoning 131 450. We are happy to organise this services for you.

I’m hearing impaired, how will I be able to understand the doctor?

Patients with hearing difficulties are encouraged to utilise the National Auslan Booking & Payment service by phoning 1800 246 945. We are happy to organise this service for you.

Can I phone the doctor?

We try and minimise interruptions for our practitioners whilst consulting. If you need to contact your doctor you may leave a message with reception, and they may be able to return your call once they have finished consulting. If it is urgent matter you will be connected with our practice nurse who can triage your issue and make arrangements to assist.

Can I discuss more than one health issue with the doctor?

Of course you can!!!  Our practice is designed to provide whole patient, quality health care.  If you have multiple or complex issues you may want to book a double appointment.  The out of pocket payment is the same regardless but we will have more time allocated to manage your health.

I have some feedback for your centre, who do I direct it to?

We welcome your feedback and suggestions. We are striving to continue to improve as a practice to meet the needs of our patients. Feedback can be discussed with our staff or emailed to our office manager lynette@newtownmc.com.au All feedback is passed on to the practice principal’s so we can learn and improve our medical centre.

I need to see a doctor today, can you fit me in?

We will do everything we can to book a same day appointment with one of our doctors. If there is no further appointments available our nursing team will triage your concerns and arrange an appropriate time for an appointment. Please notify our staff if you require an urgent appointment.

My Health Record

Newtown Medical Centre is connected to the My Health Record system. You can choose what
information goes into your health record and who is allowed access to it. The My Health Record system is used by doctors, hospitals and other healthcare organisations to securely store and share medical information between healthcare providers. Please speak to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns
