Skin cancer screening can lead to the recommendation of a skin biopsy to get improved diagnosis of lesions. This can be performed under local anaesthetic in our treatment room and your GP will discuss the recommended approach depending on the type, size and location of the skin lesion. If skin cancer is confirmed further treatment by excising the area is often required. An excision depends again on site and size of the skin lesion and will normal require sutures which will need to be removed at a later visit. All biopsy and excisions are sent to pathology for expert opinion on the underlying lesion. Our GPs will guide you on the necessary next steps whether that be further treatment provided by our GPs or referral on to our dermatology or plastic surgery colleagues.
