At Newtown Medical we are strong believers in the value of preventative health measures. Our GPs are experienced in preventing serious conditions before they occur. As part of our preventative healthcare program, we offer screening for many common conditions, and can advise and implement measures that will help to reduce your risk and keep you healthy.
Also known as Care Plans, GP management plans are dedicated appointments designed to manage ongoing health problems. The aim is to identify and improve your chronic medical conditions through a structured plan and clear actions.
Working with our experienced nurses in collaboration with your regular GP, we will identify your goals and actions needed to best address your medical conditions. Your care plan can be shared with those involved with your care (including specialists and allied health providers) to achieve the best outcomes for your health. Through 3 monthly face-to-face appointments (or video Telehealth), our Nurses, together with your GP, will continue to monitor and track your progress towards better health, ensuring there is accountability and adjusting your goals as required.
And the best part is, there is no out of pocket cost to you!
At Newtown Medical, anyone aged 75 and over is entitled to a comprehensive medical health assessment at no out-of-pocket cost. This is a service that we are proud to provide, and something that our GPs recommend you do yearly.
The health assessment is a 45 minute session with our nurse, followed by an appointment with your regular doctor. There is a focus on proactively keeping you independent and safe in your home, ensures you are up to date with any preventive health measures or screening, and will link in with our other recommended services such as home medicine reviews (HMRs), advanced care planning and myagedcare.

At Newtown Medical, anyone between the age of 45 – 49 is entitled to a once off, comprehensive medical health assessment at no out-of-pocket cost. This is a service that we are proud to provide and is focused on the early detection and management of health conditions. Our focus is on assessing your individualised plan for cardiovascular and cancer screening.
The health assessment is a 60 minute appointment, consisting typically of a 45 minute appointment with a practice nurse, followed by a 15 minute appointment with your regular doctor.

A Home Medicine Review (HMR) is a comprehensive review of your medication conducted in your home by a qualified pharmacist. This service is designed to ensure that your medications are being taken correctly and safely, help you get the best advice on how to best manage your medications, and address any concerns or questions you might have about the medications you are taking. The Pharmacist will screen for drug interactions and recommend any testing required to monitor the safety of your medication. They provide a report to your regular GP for review and any changes are implemented only after a discussion with your GP.
There is no out of pocket cost for this service.
At Newtown Medical all of our doctors and nursing team are able to provide these services. Please discuss with your doctor at your appointment.
