Newtown Medical is a private billing practice. Patients need to pay for any services provided by the clinic. Whenever possible, we

will process your Medicare rebate on the spot if you have a valid Medicare card.
Our fees are reviewed annually and may increase each year on the 1 st of July.

Laboratory tests (such as swabs, biopsies, pap smears, and blood tests) are not billed through the clinic. Most tests are covered by

Medicare or private health insurance.

Billing information for patient consultations

The fee schedule applies to consultations from Monday to Friday. A $10.00 surcharge will apply to consultations on Saturday.

Additional fees may apply for nursing services for procedure or vaccines.

Work cover/TAC

We do not accept new Workcover and TAC claims. All patients will be charged privately and payment is taken after the consult. The

patient will be responsible to claim back from Work Cover/TAC.

Private Vaccine fees

If you also have a consultation with your vaccine, that is not related to your vaccine additional fees will apply.

Please note that the cost of vaccines and other third-party services (beyond our control) may increase at any time without prior notice.

Medical File Transfer Fee

Full medical records transfer fees begin at $40.00 plus GST. The records will be either faxed, copied, sent via encryption or via
registered post depending on the size of the file and preferred method of request.

Patient Health summaries are provided at no charge. Upon receiving a written request from our new practice, we will send them
directly to them free of charge.

Non-attendance, late cancelations and later arrival for appointments

As the doctors at Newtown Medical are regularly fully booked, we have patients who miss out on appointments and are on a waiting list to be seen in the case of a cancellation. We understand that things pop up and you may need to reschedule your appointment. However, we do ask that you provide us with at least 2 hours’ notice prior to your appointment time so that we can attempt to fit other patients in. Our SMS appointment reminder alerts you to our policy for non-attendance, late cancellation, and late arrival for your scheduled appointment.

If you do not provide notice:

DNA/Late cancellation process – you will receive a text message or email advising that a DNA fee will be charged ($50 for a standard appointment, $100 for a long appointment) and you will be emailed the invoice if we are unable to contact you via phone.

If there have been extenuating circumstances that have resulted in your non-attendance, please email reception on reception@newtownmc.com.au or call 03 5221 5044 and your individual situation will be discussed with your regular GP. As we are conscious of running on time, please be aware that if you arrive late for your appointment your GP may not be able to see you. If they do see you, they will only be able to offer you a consultation up to the time your appointment should have concluded. For example, if you have booked a 15-minute appointment at 10am and you arrive at 10.05am, the doctor will only be able to see you until 10.15am. If you have arrived too late and your GP cannot see you, the above policy and fees will apply.
