Commencing 1 November 2026 at Newtown Medical Centre
Supporting your child’s health and development
At Newtown Medical Centre, we are pleased to introduce our 3-Year-Old Healthy Kids Check, designed to support your child’s health, wellbeing and development as they grow.
The check provides an opportunity to review your child’s general health, growth and developmental milestones, and to identify any areas where additional support or follow-up may be helpful.
Our nursing team and GP will work together with you to provide a comprehensive assessment and answer any questions you may have about your child’s health and development.
What does the Healthy Kids Check involve?
The check provides an opportunity to discuss and assess a range of areas, including:
- Growth and physical development: Reviewing your child’s growth and general physical health.
- Vision and hearing: Discussing any concerns and identifying whether further assessment may be needed.
- Speech and communication: Considering your child’s communication and language development.
- Development and behaviour: Discussing developmental milestones, behaviour and any concerns you may have.
- Oral health: Discussing dental health and oral hygiene.
- Nutrition and physical activity: Talking about healthy eating and activity as your child grows.
- Sleep and toileting: Discussing sleep routines, toilet training and any challenges.
- General health and wellbeing: Reviewing your child’s health history and any concerns you would like to raise.
Who is eligible?
The 3-Year-Old Healthy Kids Check is available for eligible children:
- From their 3rd birthday
- Up until the day before their 4th birthday
- The check is available once per child, subject to Medicare eligibility and claiming requirements.
What happens during the appointment?
The Healthy Kids Check involves appointments with both a member of our nursing team and your child’s GP.
Together, they will assess your child’s health and development and discuss any questions or concerns you may have.
We encourage parents and carers to be involved throughout the appointment, as you know your child best.
