Nurses

At Newtown Medical we have an experienced and highly trained nursing team. We have a 3 bed treatment room with nurses administering immunisations, iron infusions, various injections, and assisting in minor procedures and acute health presentations. Our nurses Triage appointments if there are none available, and can also help with results enquiries. We also have a highly trained team of preventative care nurses delivering our Care plan program and health assessments.

Leonie

Nurse

Leonie leads our wonderful team of nurses. She has been a nurse for 45 years, worked at NMC for 23 years and continues to love her job and workplace. She enjoys caring for all ages, is an immunisation expert and is looking forward to soon becoming a grandmother. Her joys include hiking, travel and pickleball.

Melissa

Nurse

Melissa completed her Bachelor of Nursing in 2019 and has since developed a strong interest in childhood immunisations and skin excisions. She has also gained valuable experience working for brief periods in both Urgent Care and Emergency Department.

Jessica

Nurse

Jess completed her Bachelor of Nursing in 2020 and has spent majority of her career working in Emergency, before recently transitioning into General Practice. She has completed further studies in immunisation administration and is passionate about supporting individuals to take an active role in their health and wellbeing. Outside of work Jess enjoys spending time with her dog and heading down the coast.

Michelle

Nurse

Michelle Hughes is an experienced Registered Nurse and Diabetes Educator who completed her Bachelor of Nursing in 1995 followed by a Graduate Diploma in Critical Care. She went on to work as an ANUM in coronary care and cardiac transplant at The Alfred Hospital.

Her career later included time in Malaysia, where she further developed her clinical teaching and research skills, before returning to her hometown of Geelong to take on a nurse manager role in both a specialist and a busy general practice. Michelle holds postgraduate certificates in Women’s Health and Immunisation, and has recently graduated as a Diabetes Educator. She is very passionate about preventative health and has a strong professional interest in chronic condition management, with a particular focus on diabetes education. Outside of work, Michelle enjoys life on the Bellarine Peninsula with her family and two friendly alpacas.

Stephanie

Nurse

Stephanie graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor of Nursing and Commerce at Deakin University. Following her graduation, she gained extensive clinical experience in metropolitan Melbourne, specialising in cardiac and cardiothoracic nursing where she obtained a postgraduate certificate in cardiac nursing.

Stephanie has since transitioned into nursing education, working in both Melbourne and Geelong. She is particularly passionate about mentoring and supporting junior nurses, ensuring they receive the guidance and resources necessary for their professional growth.

Since 2017, Stephanie has been based in Geelong where she continues her passion for providing education working at both Barwon Health and Newtown Medical Centre. She has a strong interest in preventative health and dedicates herself to educating patients on how lifestyle and dietary modifications can improve their long-term health outcomes.

Outside of her professional life, Stephanie is an avid tennis player and enjoys hiking, running, and supporting her children in their various sporting endeavors.

Claire

Reception Team Lead

Claire joined our reception team in 2025.  With over 10 years experience in medical reception she loves supporting both patients and the reception team to deliver the best outcomes for our customers.  She aims to provide a friendly and welcoming presence at reception and is enjoying connecting with our patients.

Chelsea

Reception

Chelsea joined the NMC team as a medical receptionist in early 2024 and is now a member of our administration team. She is patient focused and enjoys the day-to-day challenges of the clinical environment, and being part of such a positive friendly team. In her free time Chelsea loves walks in nature and getaways with her family.

Sophie

Reception

Sophie has worked in customer service-based roles since 2017  and thoroughly enjoys helping people. She prides herself in being a friendly and familiar face behind the reception desk.

Despite being new to the role, she has acquired many skills while building an understanding of medical procedures and processes to effectively liase between our doctors and patients.

In her spare time, she enjoys catching up with friends, spending time with her beloved dog and beach days.

Jessie

Jessie joined our reception team in 2021, bringing with her a strong customer service background and a warm, welcoming approach. Since starting at the clinic, she has enjoyed the challenges of the role and the chance to learn something new each day as she continues to grow her knowledge in the medical field.

She is committed to maintaining a high standard of care and reliability, and takes pride in contributing to a supportive, efficient environment for both patients and the team.

In her spare time, Jessie is a mum to twin boys and is thoroughly enjoying motherhood.

Railee brings over 15 years of administration and health care experience with her to this role.

With a passion for health and well-being Railee prides herself on being approachable, kind and compassionate, she enjoys working with people and making a difference in each person’s day with a commitment to positive patient experiences.

In her spare time Railee enjoys spending time with her two young children, family and escaping to the country farm.

With over 40 years as a receptionist here at Newtown Medical Centre,  I’ve built strong, lasting relationships with patients through warmth, reliability, and a genuine commitment to care.

Bridget joined our reception team in 2022 whilst studying a Bachelor of Health Sciences at Deakin University.

She thrives in the fast-paced environment and loves learning something new each day. Bridget’s favourite part of her role is connecting with patients and brightening their day with a friendly smile.

Sarah has extensive experience in customer service, including working as a receptionist in general practice since 2022, joining   NMC in 2025. Sarah enjoys interacting with people and helping where she can.

Outside of working Sarah enjoys spending time with family, long walks on the beach and reading

I am friendly, welcoming and committed to honest, reliable customer service. I have been a medical receptionist in Geelong for 5+ years. Biological Science is my tertiary profession, leading to 20 years experience in pharmaceutical and medical devices sales and clinical support.

I love to talk Sport especially AFL and my beloved Cats!

Laura Robinson

AAPM -Certified Practice Manger

Laura has worked in General Practice since 2010 and brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the team. As a Certified Practice Manager, she is unwavering in her commitment to staying ahead of industry changes and is driven by a passion for excellence and continuous improvement.

Her key areas of interest include team building, client focused customer service, workflow and efficiency improvements, risk management, financial management, and human resources. Laura’s leadership style is collaborative and proactive, ensuring the smooth operation of the practice while fostering a positive, high performing team culture.

In recognition of commitment and leadership in Practice Management, Laura was honoured as the 2021 AAPM National Practice Manager of the Year.

Outside of work , Laura enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling and exploring new places.

Ellen Brown

Office Manager

Ellen began at Newtown Medical Centre as a receptionist in 2023 and was promoted to Office Manager in mid 2025. She brings with her a love of team leadership and training and is passionate about establishing a positive company culture and delivering exceptional customer service outcomes.  In her free time, Ellen loves cooking, relaxing with a good book and adventures with her children.
